3 Magical Self Care Rituals

on

Self care is an important part of a witch’s practice. If you take good care of your mind and body, you will have more physical and mental energy to channel into your magic. Magical self care is an essential part of creating a happy and healthy life as well as an effective magical practice.

If you live with an illness or disability, magical self care is especially important because it is vital that you use your more limited energy for what benefits you and helps you to create a meaningful and fulfilling life.

For those with sensory issues or ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder or mental health issues then a little experimentation may be required to find magical self care rituals that work with the way your mind and body function. Do not feel like you have to do any specific ritual, spell or practice if it is not helpful for you. Your magical practice should be tailored to your needs, values, desires and abilities. It is certainly not necessary to spend hours in meditation or undertaking complicated rituals.

If you do not have the time or energy for complicated rituals and spells do not worry. Even a few moments each day can improve your life. In addition, some activities such as journaling, mindfulness, visualisation and meditation can be done even if you can’t get out of bed.

Magical self care can be a helpful part of a healing journey. When you take time to examine your emotions, your values and what you want from life as well as dealing with your negative emotions or limiting beliefs you become more open to the universe and better able to perceive ways to nudge and influence the world towards what you want and need.

3 Magical Self Care Rituals

The following magical self care rituals can help you to release blockages and limiting beliefs, heal and rest.

Ritual 1: A meditation to open the heart

In my opinion, the best magic comes from a healed and open heart. When you can see yourself, your life, and those around you with clarity and compassion, you are in a better place to create healing, harmony and abundance for those you care about and yourself.

One of the areas in our body that often gets blocked with negativity and limiting beliefs is the heart. Our hearts can get blocked when we build walls around ourselves to protect ourselves from harm and when we store up negative emotions and memories rather than releasing them. When our energy is blocked it cannot flow freely and becomes stagnant. If our heart is blocked we find it hard to feel love and joy and may feel negative, fearful and stuck. This simple magical self care practice can help you unblock your heart and allow energy to flow freely through you.

  • Sit or lie down in a place where you will not be disturbed for ten minutes.
  • You may like to light a candle, burn incense or play soothing sounds. Cover yourself with a blanket or wrap yourself in a shawl or cardigan if you feel cold.
  • Take a few deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth.
  • Now imagine a place in the centre of your chest, put your hand on this area if that feels comfortable for you.
  • Take a deep breath in and imagine the air coming into your lungs as a warm soft yellow colour like the rays of the sun on a summer’s evening. Feel this warm light coming into your heart and filling it with light, healing and positivity.
  • As you breathe out, imagine your breath leaving your body as a grey light. Visualise this light taking all the negativity out of your body
  • Breath in again and feel the warm golden light filling up your heart and then spreading out until it fills your entire body
  • Breathe out again and imagine all the negativity from your mind and body leaving you with your out-breath
  • Repeat this breathing for as long as you feel comfortable

If you find it difficult to visualise these scenarios you can simply say I breathe in positive energy on the in-breath and I release negative energy on the out-breath.

Ritual 2: A healing shower

The following magical self care ritual is perfect for when you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or under the weather. It will help you to cleanse and release negative emotions and energy and make space for more positive vibes. It is important to remember that we should not feel bad for having negative emotions – they are part of normal human experience. Having said that, we can sometimes benefit from a little help in releasing these negative emotions or getting unstuck and this magical self care ritual can help.

What you need

  • A shower
  • A Crystal associated with healing, such as amethyst, rose quartz or clear quartz
  • Candles and soothing music (optional)

What to do

Before starting the spell, take your healing crystal and cleanse it using your preferred method, such as holding it under running water, passing it through incense smoke or cleansing it with the sound of a singing bowl or bell. This ensures that its energy is clear and ready for healing work.

Prepare your shower by creating a serene and relaxing space. You might like to light candles and play soothing music.

Begin by holding your chosen healing crystals in your hands and setting your intention for healing. Visualise a gentle, loving light surrounding you and the crystals, infusing them with powerful healing energy.

Step into the shower and allow the water to flow over your body. As you do this, visualise any physical or emotional pain, tension or negativity washing away and being replaced by healing, soothing energy.

Take one of the healing crystals and gently rub it over your body, focusing on areas that need healing or extra care. Visualise the crystal’s energy merging with your own, promoting balance, restoration and vitality.

As you continue your shower, speak words of healing and affirmation. You can say something like:

As the water cleanses my body, let it also cleanse and heal my spirit.

With each droplet that falls, I am renewed and restored.

May I be healed in body, mind and spirit.

It is done

Take a few moments to stand or sit in the shower, allowing the healing water to envelop you. Visualise a radiant light encompassing your entire being, filling you with vibrant health, peace, and well-being.

As you step out of the shower or bath, express gratitude for the healing energy you have received and for the crystals’ assistance in the process. Dry off your body and place the crystals in a safe and sacred space where they can continue to radiate healing energy until you need them again.

Ritual 3: A good night’s sleep

A good night’s sleep can be one of the most healing experiences of all. If you are having trouble sleeping, try this simple magical self care ritual.

What you need

  • Crystal such as amethyst or clear quartz
  • Chamomile (for relaxation and tranquillity)
  • Small sealable bag, sachet or envelope
  • Notebook and pen

What to do

Begin by holding the amethyst or clear quartz in your hands and setting your intention for a restful and rejuvenating night’s sleep. Visualise yourself in a state of deep relaxation and tranquillity, surrounded by peaceful energy.

Now, take the crystal and pass it over your body, starting from your head and moving down to your feet. Visualise the crystal clearing away any tension, stress, or negative energy that may interfere with your sleep. Set the intention for a clear and harmonious energy field.

Place the crystal or crystal under your pillow or beside your bed, where its soothing energy can promote restful sleep and peaceful dreams.

Next, infuse the chamomile with your intention for relaxation and sleep. Place the chamomile inside your bag or envelope and seal it. Hold the sachet in your hands and breathe in the soothing aroma. Set the intention for a peaceful and restorative sleep.

Place the sachet under your pillow or somewhere close to your bed, allowing its calming scent to enhance your sleep environment.

When you are ready to sleep, express gratitude for the crystals and herbs, acknowledging their assistance in promoting restful sleep. Trust that the energy of the crystals and the soothing properties of the chamomile will support your journey to a peaceful slumber.

Regularly reinforce your intention for a good night’s sleep by practicing magical self care such as relaxation techniques, maintaining a soothing sleep environment and nurturing a bedtime routine that supports rest and rejuvenation.
